How Mindfulness Can Help with Anxiety

In today's world, everything is moving in a hurry, we are so occupied by our rushing thoughts that we forget the importance of the present moment. We forget to understand how important it is to be in the moment and not worrying about the past or getting anxious about the future, just completely engulfed by the glories of the present moment. That's all we have for now and that's all we have to work on.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a technique to be fully present in the moment. To know what your body is going through and what exactly your thoughts are. It's about understanding the feelings you are experiencing and how your body is reacting to them. In other words, it's self-awareness, it is self-awakening.

The present moment is the only time over which we have dominion.-Thich Nhat Hanh

Example

Let's take an example: you are at a family lunch but the next day you have a meeting. So during all that time you are worried about the meeting and having thoughts related to it. Though it was a good chance for you to spend quality time with your family instead, you are worried about the work. So in between all this, you forget to be in the moment and enjoy this precious time. Later you have regrets about not enjoying it at all but at that time all you were doing was worrying about the future.

Importance of Mindfulness

There is no good in worrying about the future. All it's doing is causing you anxiety. People with anxiety are most of the time worrying about the future. It is difficult for them to focus therefore it is important to practice mindfulness.

Tips that can reduce anxiety

Here are some tips on mindfulness that can reduce anxiety.

Meditation

Meditation is very important to keep your mind and body in shape. It will help you to reduce stress and become more self-aware. You can attain a great level of mindfulness through meditation. So find yourself a good mentor and start meditation.

Daily Journaling

Make a habit of daily journaling. This will help you to keep a track of your thoughts. Write everything about your day, the good and bad parts, everything. This will reduce anxiety and make you feel so light. So it is definitely worth trying.

Positive Affirmation

Do positive self-talk. Motivate yourself, encourage yourself to do better because you can do wonders if you believe in yourself. Refrain from pessimistic thoughts and behaviour. Focus on one task at a time. Don't get involved in too many things just focus on the present task this way you can achieve wonderful results.

Go outside/ Reduce screen time

Go for a walk, look around you and appreciate all the blessings. Feel the fresh air. Nature can heal your heart as it is a great way of reducing anxiety and it will make you feel so pleasant instantly.

Also using your phone 24/7 is not good for your health and productivity. So spend no phone time in which you can completely relax and spend quality time in nature.

Final Words

Everything takes time but nothing is impossible so keep practising and improving yourself to become better with each passing day and to end your anxiety and worries. And indeed mindfulness is a great technique to add this in your daily life to see wonders.
